how to get the most out of your candle

Candles of any size, shape, or scent are beautiful additions to any home and can brighten an entire room, but they are also unique pieces of art that need to be cared for in order to get the most out of them. We at Antique Candle Co.® have put together an easy-to-follow guide so that you may have the best possible experience with your candles. From our classic mason jars to our one-of-a-kind antiques...we've got you covered, friend!

First Light

When you receive your new Antique Candle Co.® candle, let it burn long enough to allow the melted wax on the surface to reach the edge of the jar. This may take 2-4 hours depending on the size of your candle. Allow additional hours for those antiques that have a larger surface area.

After your first burn, we recommend burning your candle for no longer than 4 hours at a time for maximum quality and longevity. Once your candle has 1/4" of wax remaining, we recommend you switch to your next yummy candle! 💕

Storage

Candles like the dark! You may be familiar with this one: always store your candles in a cool, dry, and dark place. Storing candles in direct sunlight or harsh indoor lighting for long periods of time may cause them to fade or warp.  Even though all of our candles are white, this is still a good tip to follow!

Wicks, Wicks, Wicks

Trim them! This is a crucial part of candle care that, if not followed, can potentially be a hazard. Use an Antique Candle Co.® Wick Trimmer to keep your wick about ¼ - ½ inch. This will allow for a more even burn and will help prevent the wick from mushrooming or creating soot.

If the wick is not trimmed, the flame of the candle may grow too large and begin to smoke or flicker, which are signs that the flame isn’t properly controlled.  If this occurs, simply extinguish the flame, wait for the candle to completely cool, and trim the wick with either a wick trimmer or scissors.

Cleaning

If dust forms on the surface of your candle, be sure to clean it off before lighting. To do this, use a soft cloth that is either dry or lightly dampened with water.  You can also use a piece of nylon.

Snuff It Out

An Antique Candle Co.® Snuffer is recommended when extinguishing your candle. However, blowing out your candle works, too (just be careful not to splatter the hot wax!)

Antique Candle Co.® strives to bring a stylish and enjoyable candle experience to your home! But once the candle leaves us, it still needs to be handled with care.

I hope that this short guide has helped you better understand how to care for your candle and has answered some of questions you may have had.  Follow these tips, and your candle will surely reach its full potential from start to finish!

I purchased the Lavender/Vanilla Mason candle at a nearby store. Later that evening I lit it for the first time, I’ve had many candles over the years but this one is my very favorite. Now, I’m here ordering on the website. Even my family noticed the scent, I’m hooked!

I recently (3/24/19) purchase 3 candles for the first time. I saw them on the facebook page HowDoesShe. They said the clean cotton was on special this month but I did not get any discount on this candle. I did get a new customer discount overall but nothing on your candle supposedly on special. Can you help? Thanks! I look forward to my candles!!!
